About Us
Cub Scout Pack 509 is a family-friendly, inclusive pack serving the Los Gatos Mountains community in California. We welcome boys and girls in kindergarten through 5th grade to join in the fun and adventure of Cub Scouting. Our program is built around hands-on learning, outdoor exploration, community service, and building character—all while having a great time with friends and family.
From hiking local trails and camping under the stars to launching model rockets and racing Pinewood Derby cars, our Scouts learn by doing. Pack 509 encourages curiosity, confidence, and teamwork, supported by a dedicated group of parent volunteers and leaders who help bring the program to life.
Whether you're new to Scouting or a returning family, we invite you to be part of the Pack 509 community. Together, we’re helping young Scouts grow into capable, compassionate leaders—one adventure at a time!
A short history
Pack 509 had about 60 kids in it in the late 80’s and early 90’s. We held our pinewood derby and blue & gold dinners in the Loma/CT gym.
We were also very adventurous. We completed all of the “Rimrovers” hikes. Which included Pinnacles, Mt. Tamalpias, Mt. Diablo, Mission Peak, Mt. St. Helena, & Mt. Wittenberg. We also volunteered a lot.
We participated in beach cleanups, picked up trash along the Los Gatos Creek Trail and always left our campsites cleaner than we found them.
Pack 509 used to attend scout camp at Pico Blanco in Big Sur. We would swim in the freezing cold Little Sur River, learn about native plants, play volleyball, and do arts & crafts. We also went to the Mountain Man Rendezvous in Boulder Creek where we shot black powder muskets and threw hatchets, knives, and spears at targets.
We also did the traditional fundraising like selling popcorn and running the snack shack in the Christmas Tree Farm on the winter holiday.
